Container Show

Container Show is a site specific performance which addresses the global economy through its three strands Public, Private and Social. The show looks to question how these need to work together to form a cohesive, fair and responsible society. The port environment is the perfect backdrop for the show to base itself around as it is the fundamental platform for trade and economy. Trade is the foundation of human civilization. Trade breeds trust and friendly interaction between the people of the world. For as long as nations have traded with each other, the world has relied on its ports to be the doorways between those nations. The context of a port also has its own story to tell. Lately ports have been shut off from the cities and the public they serve by rules, regulations, and high fences. People know their ports exist, but what they do is unseen and, more often than not, totally misunderstood. This has led city ports worldwide in a precarious position of having to justify their existence on what is seen as prime waterfront land. Many people would like to see this land as public space, apartments, office blocks or fun parks. A port is a vibrant and unique place to be.
