Second Unit
Koko were commissioned by the New Zealand International Festival of the Arts, to create an immersive theatre experience which was based on the hugely popular New Zealand film What We Do In The Shadows by Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clements.
Koko created Second Unit. Second Unit are the not so glamorous film crew responsible to picking up the shots genrally without they principle actors involved. This rag tag film unit made up of societies misfits provide the perfect premise with how best approach a re-shoot of the cult classic film.
Staged on a huge custom-built set on Wellington's Waterfront, the audience were invited into the world of the film as an extra in this live immersive experience. The audience interacted with 36 actors as they explored multiple environments of the huge complex which reflected the different sets and characters in the movie.
The show was a sell out and remains New Zealand’s largest and most ambitious Immersive theatre experience.
